Bergdorf-LageAnreise Getting to the mountain village Goms – an experience in itself

I guide you toward vacation. I follow you everywhere. My direction is your direction. My end is your destination. Sometimes I am broad. Sometimes, I wind my way around the mountains. Sometimes, I travel through rocks. Hello! I am your road.

Take your time when you are planning your trip to Goms. During the summer months, there is not too much to consider. However, in winter, a closer look is worthwhile. Goms is a high valley in the Swiss Alps in southern Switzerland. The villages are located between 1200 and 1400 metres above sea level. The streets in the area are excellent and the public transport (Matterhorn Gotthard Railway) gives you access to all of Goms. If you travel by car in spring, late autumn or winter, make sure you go the right gear (winter tyres, snow chains, frost protection, antifreeze, well-charged batteries). If you travel by public transport, calculate enough time to change trains. In Switzerland, the schedules are quite tight and the time calculated to change trains are often not too long. However, if you plan ahead, your vacation starts as soon as you board a train and see the spectacular landscape passing by.

ARRIVING BY TRAIN

First, you travel to Visp or Brig via the Lötschberg or Simplon tunnels or via Sitten. Once there, change to the Matterhorn Gotthard Railway. There is a station in very village in Goms/Obergoms. Through the Furka tunnel, you can reach Goms by train and car (car trains at the Furka) all year. Contact the SBB (Swiss Federal Railways) for door-to-door luggage service. ARRIVING BY CAR

When you are arriving from the north, you travel through the Lötschberg Tunnel (by car train), from the west, you take the motorway (Vevey, Martigny, Sion, Brig). Arriving from the east, you cross the Oberalp Pass (check for winter closing times and car trains availability, reservation required), from the south, take the Simplon or Nufenen Pass to get to Valais. Make sure you calculate enough time for the car train ride, especially during the peak season when there are often traffic jams. From Brig, follow the main road in the direction of the Furka and Grimsel Pass. Traffic news for Valais: www.valais.ch
